We had a beautiful evening at the Tallgrass Campus on June 2nd for the annual Summer Sober. Friends, both new and old, came out to celebrate recovery, with speakers and fantastic food.
The weather was perfect…a calm 73 degrees with sun. Alumni started coming out around 4 pm for fellowship. Soon they were joined by many others who had come for the purpose of celebrating Tallgrass and recovery.
A surprise guest made their way to us this year. I had the honor of showing off the campus to a wonderful woman named June Nusz. She was on the Lincoln County Planning Commission and on her very first vote, she was the only person who voted in favor for our campus to be built. That was eight years ago, two before we even opened the doors. I am pretty sure I told that story to EVERY person I introduced her to that evening. Thank you, June, you rock.
After a wonderful meal of pork shoulder and the fixings, we all settled in for our feature speakers. Herb L. and Andrew M. shared their experience, strength and hope with the crowd. They both had extremely fascinating stories that kept us on the edge of our seats. So very grateful to these guys…Thank you.
Bob made us wait until almost dark before he started the BIG bonfire…many laughs, lots of fellowship and good will around the pit before it was time for the night to end. I would like to thank everyone for coming out. Mark your calenders, first weekend in June, 2013, we will do it all again!
